When you're looking to augment your sound with the tone-shaping capabilities of some of the world's most well-loved speaker cabinets, then the BIGBox series is for you. Using the same uncompromising signal chain used in our Speakerbox series, we've set out to capture the magic of giant wooden boxes, with strategically placed holes, stuffed with insanely loud cone-shaped bits of mayhem, and glued together with the blood, sweat and tears of three generations of rock gods, grunts, and goram contenders... or something to that effect.
Features
  • Cabs sampled with up to 14 industry-standard microphones each with their own sound
  • Up to 8 mic positions to dial in the right tone for your amp
  • 9 different mic distances for different amounts of proximity effect, cabinet and room sound
  • Minimum of 550 IRs per cabinet* so you'll find the perfect match for your sound
  • Edited for better phase coherence allowing you to more easily mix multiple IRs
  • Clean, uncompromising signal chain that won't add undesirable color to your sound
  • Cabs powered with Bryston 4B, known for flat freq. response, ample power, low distortion
  • Recorded with Prism Sound Orpheus converters for top quality A/D and D/A conversion
  • Sampled with a Neve 1073 and/or a pair of Neve 1084s, two of the most highly regarded preamps for recording guitar, or anything else for that matter
  • Compatible with a wide range of recording software and convolution plug-ins (see Compatible Software) including Axe-Fx ready sysex files**
* Take a look at the IR Matrix for each speaker cab for a complete listing of captured impulse responses for that cabinet.

**Axe-Fx sysex files are truncated to 1024 samples to conform to its cabinet IR size limits, thus removing room reflections

Mic Positions

We mic each sampled speaker from 8 positions. The primary positions include: Cap center, Cap 45° off axis, Cap edge, Cap edge 45° off axis, Cone middle, and Cone edge. Then we do a Room mic and a Back of the Cabinet mic.

The captured sound is brightest (contains the most high frequency content) at the "Cap center" position and gets progressively darker (more lows and less highs) as you move the mic towards the edge of the cone. Depending on the position and the mic distance, the mic will pick up different aspects of the other speakers and the cabinet.

Each cabinet is sampled with a matched pair of Neumann KM84s and a pair of TC30s in an XY configuration. These are labeled RoomL and RoomR. We also use a KM84 or TC30 to sample the back of the cabinet. We reverse the phase of this sample. It picks up mostly low end and may be useful when blended with a another mic signal.

Not every mic was sampled in every position and at every distance so check the cabinet's IR Matrix for a comprehensive listing.

Mic Distances

We sampled each speaker and microphone combination at up to 10 distances:  0", 0.5", 1", 2", 3", 4", 5", 6", 12", and Room. As the mic gets further from the speaker, the captured sound tends to get progressively brighter as the low-end drops off. You get more ambient room sound and you pick up more from the other speakers and the different aspects of the cabinet resonance the further away you place the mic. The 0" starting position is right on the grill, but not touching it, or parallel to the baffle in the case of cabs without grills or grill-cloth.

Bogner Uberkab • Celestion Vintage 30s • Cabinet IR Library:
Impulse responses of a Bogner Uberkab. Vintage 30s never sounded so good... definition without sounding raspy. The Uberkab is loaded with both Celestion G12T-75s and Vintage 30s. So, because we're close mic'ing, we had to treat it as three cabs in one. We mic'ed the T-75s and tagged them with "Uberkab-T75". We mic'ed the Vintage 30s and tagged them with "Uberkab-V30". Then to get the vibe of both speakers in one IR, we did a 50/50 mix of both speakers and labeled them "Uberkab-T75V30". This set features the Vintage 30s and includes the 50/50 mix IRs, but not the close-mic'ed T-75s. They do bleed through, though. More so, the further away you put the mic.

Zipped archive available for immediate download contains 1373 impulse responses each at 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96Khz sampling rates, 16/24 bit, and Axe-Fx ready sysex files. See IR Matrix.

Soldano 412B • Eminence Legend V12s • Cabinet IR Library:
Impulse responses of a Soldano 412B loaded with four Eminence Legend V12s. Ours is purple. Which most would agree, makes it more awesome. A lot more high-end than the S12X version. It's a front-loaded cab with lots o' resonance so you may need to back the mics off a bit more than usual.

Zipped archive available for immediate download contains 699 impulse responses each at 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96Khz sampling rates, 16/24 bit, and Axe-Fx ready sysex files. See IR Matrix.

Soldano 412B • Eminence S12Xs • Cabinet IR Library:
Impulse responses of a Soldano 412B loaded with four Eminence-made S12Xs. S12Xs were stock in the older cabs. Give this one a little more distance than you might normally, the cab resonance is pronounced up close and the speakers have a notch in the upper mids between 4-8KHz. Nice for taming fizzy guitars.

Ampeg SVT 810 • SVT 10s • Cabinet IR Library:
Impulse responses of an SVT 810 with stock SVT 10" speakers (86-032-01). We're pretty sure the SPL coming off this monster ripped a hole in the space-time continuum. Maybe not, but it certainly pushed lunch at Pinche Taqueria through the ol' pipes in record time.

Money-back Guarantee... that's right... yup... we're that confident

Yeah, it may sound like a cheesy infomercial pitch, but we think offering a money-back guarantee is better than offering a crippled demo, primarily because one of the benefits of the our IR library, beside the quality, is the sheer number of choices you have to dial in the sound you want. A scaled back demo simply would not reflect that. So, if you buy one of our libraries and try them for up to 14 days and don't want to use them any more, then delete them and shoot us an email (the address is on the Support page) with your paypal receipt (we have to have that for record keeping purposes) and we will give you a full refund. We encourage you to use the Cabinet Preview feature to get a good idea of how the cabinets will sound.

Compatible Software

We go through a great deal of trouble making sure our impulses work efficiently with existing convolution plugins, while still maintaining a natural reverb tail. Our IRs should work with any convolution software that can load 3rd party impulses in WAV format, but the following are known to work: If you want to monitor the wet (convolved) guitar signal in "real time" (low latency), your best bets are: LeCab, keFir, LAConvolver, Revalver, SIR II, AFImpulse, or Boogex. For more tips on using our impulses, check out our Tutorials section.
